Taxes on tobacco
Big money in sickness
Billions are collected from the state to federal level on cigarette taxes. Now it's marijuana. The states just can't make it legal. They make it legal only if they can control it and tax it. $  It's always about money and control - It's never really about health, only through never ending lies. Our governments from state to federal levels, billion dollar tax exempt non-profit societies, associations and institutions, the medical and pharmaceutical industry, and countless connected groups. Yep - It's all about money and control.

Cigarettes bring in significant revenues for state and federal governments. In Fiscal Year 2010, the federal excise tax on cigarettes collected was just over  $15.5 billion in revenue. At the state level in 2009, it was over $24 billion dollars, and $8.8 billion in payments from the 1998 tobacco settlement - a total of 48.3 billion dollars. We can only guess what it was in 2017?
One of the main reasons the government hits smokers so hard with taxes is because it is much easier than pushing through blanket tax increases.
Politicians don’t want constituents and taxpayers to be angry with them so they try to find small percentages of the population to go after. They push non-smokers  against smokers with never ending lies, fraudulent studies, and have since the beginning.

The lower income groups throughout the country are always those with a higher percentage of tobacco users. They are those that suffer the most from the extremely high taxes on tobacco products.

If the use of tobacco is the actual cause of the illnesses it has always been blamed for, why do Americans smoke the least, and have the most major medical problems compared to other similar developed countries throughout the world. Why don't we ever hear about this on the major news media? The average American probably does not know this.

With the information available to everyone today by way of the internet, anyone can see the health of other developed nations and compare them to the USA. All we ever hear continuously is that smoking cause lung cancer, heart disease etc. Americans could be the most brainwashed and easily controlled people on the entire planet. All countries throughout the world post annually the statistics of their populations regarding illnesses  and premature deaths. You'll never hear these statistics mentioned on the American news media today - Ever

One reason could be, most people since the beginning of time hated the smell and the looks of tobacco. Most going back hundreds of years always connected it with evil of some kind, but rarely ever connected it to health. Another might be that the next television commercial is selling another smoking cessation drug, another billion dollar interprise $  Everything is about money $

Countries listed in this chart (perhaps a little hard to read) are from top to bottom - USA, Netherlands, Norway, Japan & Finland.
All similar in development to the USA.

The chart above shows four countries very similar in development to the USA. Note that all countries have a longer life expectancy. Coronary heart disease (CHD), Alzheimer's disease (AD, and Lung cancer are the top three causes of premature death in the USA.

Note - Japan smokes the most and has by far less premature deaths from all three causes.
Finland  has a high rate of CHD and AD - Who knows why? Could be many reasons, but certainly not connected to tobacco use. Tobacco is always blamed for Lung cancer. They have considerably less than US citizens.

If we're honest, and we look at all similar developed countries throughout the world, as I have done, we will clearly see that the countries that smoke the most, live longer, have a longer number of productive years lived , have less CHD, less AD and less lung cancer deaths. PERIOD

One more look at developed countries that are following the same anti-tobacco bullshit as Americans have been doing now for the past few decades. They're all lowering their use of tobacco. What has happened?

The G7 countries from 2011 to 2014. A look at the big killer,  tobacco.

Note that all G7 countries have reduced their use of tobacco from 2011 to 2014 with only one exception (France).
They all have an increase in premature deaths from lung cancer. Only Italy shows a totally insignificant reduction. Math error or politics?

Interesting to note - We can see that all these countries smoke considerably more than Americans. They all have longer life expectancies, and  longer healthy life years lived.
They also ALL have less deaths from Heart disease and Alzheimer's disease.

YEP - That's the ticket - Stop smoking ASAP

As Mark Twain once said - Figures don't lie, but liars do figure.
I believe it could be said that, numbers don't lie, but lies make a lot of money. $$
