A look at the 14 countries from the previous link. All these countries in alphabetical order with at least a life expectancy of 78 years from birth or more compared to the USA.

A look at the top two causes of death in the USA (coronary heart disease CHD) and (Alzheimer's disease AD) plus the five top cancer causes of premature death - Lung, Breast, Prostate, Colon and Pancrease.

Note the Life expectancy, the number of healthy productive years lived and the percentage of tobacco users.

The majority of these countries (about 80%) smoke considerably more than Americans.
Most eat a more traditional diet as apposed to a low fat, low cholesterol diet of processed and fast foods as Americans do.
They use less medical services than Americans.
They use far less prescription drugs than Americans.
These countries do not allow prescription drug television advertising.
Americans use more prescription drugs than any country in the world.

Note the two biggest users of tobacco, Cuba and Japan.
Cuba is the only communist country listed. As all communist countries, they are extremely poor with a GDP less than half the USA poverty level. Communist countries always have a higher death rate from coronary heart disease (CHD) and a few other conditions. Cuba has about the same life expectancy from birth as Americans, with considerably less deaths from Alzheimer's disease (AD) and less lung cancer.

Japan, the second highest user of tobacco is a relatively wealthy country. They have a considerably longer life expectancy, longer healthy life years lived, far less premature deaths from the top three killers, CHD, Alzheimer's and lung cancer. Only slightly more deaths from Colon and Pancreatic cancers.

SO let's blame illness on tobacco?
Is tobacco nothing but one big distraction making Big Medical and Big Pharma and thousands of connected profit and non-profit industries wealthy ?
